Vueling, part of IAG Group, has revealed the route London Gatwick – Barcelona as the most popular connection during the summer season of 2023 in the UK.

The data also forecasts the airline will transport more than 100,000 passengers per day and indicates that Bilbao and Rome remain top-selling destinations for Vueling customers, with figures predicting that both destinations will make up the top three summer departures from London Gatwick.

These statistics show that Barcelona remains a summer holiday favourite for families looking to get away during the school break or for tourists looking to maximise their bank holiday weekend in August.

Vueling’s peak summer season

Additionally, during Vueling’s peak summer season over July and August, the airline is operating over 56 weekly flights between London Gatwick and Barcelona, 21 weekly flights between London Gatwick and Rome and over 22 weekly flights between London Gatwick and Bilbao.

Commenting on the new data, Jordi Pla, Director of Network Strategy and Long-Term Planning at Vueling said: “Barcelona has always been a popular holiday destination, so there are no surprises to see it at the top of the list, but we are delighted to see Bilbao growing in popularity this year, where Vueling remains a leader too.

“The incredible climate, architecture and cuisine really make the city an incredible destination and we are glad the public are keen to discover more about this city”.

The low-cost carrier, scheduled to make a global average of 700 daily flights this summer across 104 destinations and 278 routes, offers direct return flights from Gatwick to Bilbao and Barcelona seven days a week with prices starting at £82 and £98 respectively.
