Serco, the international provider of services to governments, has been awarded a new three-year contract to continue to deliver glider maintenance services for the RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC).

The new contract enables the RAFAC to deliver gliding training. The contract has three elements; glider maintenance, winch maintenance, and the provision and maintenance of the Aerotow aircraft system, and it builds upon the aircraft maintenance which Serco already delivers. Additionally Serco provides all spare parts to the RAF’s Grob Viking TMk1 Glider Fleet.

Vital training

Commenting on the contract award, Paul McCarter, managing director of Serco’s UK defence business, said: “We are extremely proud to be providing additional services to continue our support of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and the vital training they receive through flying experience, which we support through our delivery of glider maintenance and now also aerotow and winch launch.”

In order to deliver its new aerotow capability, last year Serco acquired a Pierre Robin DR400/180R (REMO) aircraft. For the winch launch provision, Serco will be working closely with subcontractors, Skylaunch Ltd.
