London Luton Airport has secured a new route after Wizz Air announced it was launching flights to Cairo in Egypt.

The new route will take travellers from the UK to Sphinx International Airport; a convenient destination to explore the city of Giza and the Egyptian capital.

The new route will take off each Monday, Wednesday and Friday and will start from October 30.

Luton to Cairo

Jonathan Rayner, chief commercial officer at London Luton Airport, said: “Providing our passengers with even greater choice is key to the simple and friendly passenger experience that we offer.

“We are delighted to announce the launch of flights from London Luton Airport to Sphinx International Airport, offering passengers an exciting new choice of destination and the opportunity to visit some truly breathtaking and iconic landmarks.”

Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, said: “Our routes from Egypt to the UK are fast becoming some of our most popular, so we are delighted to be offering passengers more ways to explore this culturally rich destination.

“From Sphinx International Airport, travellers have so much ancient history at their fingertips to discover. With slightly cooler temperatures in winter, it’s the perfect time to explore this vibrant destination as part of our new winter schedule.”

Wizz Air connections

Wizz Air currently operates around 100 flights per day to 58 routes from Luton. Last month, the airline announced that the airport would be an all A321neo base by 2025.

Last week London Luton Airport announced that more than 65 million passengers have now travelled with Wizz Air from the hub.

The milestone 65 millionth passenger was welcomed on a flight from Luton Airport to Istanbul. Wizz Air has a longstanding relationship with London Luton Airport, the destination for the airline’s first flight from Katowice in Poland.

Rayner added: “The success of Wizz Air at London Luton Airport is testament to our strong partnership. Since that first flight in 2004, both Wizz and LLA have made huge advances, achieving impressive growth in both passenger numbers and the choice of destinations.

“Our priority, as ever, is to continue to deliver a simple and friendly passenger experience as we move towards the next key milestone of our relationship with Wizz – next year’s 20th anniversary.”
