Honeywell and TP Aerospace are partnering to support eye care charity Orbis International and its Flying Eye Hospital.

The companies will provide wheels and brake material to support the ongoing maintenance services of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital, a fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on board a McDonnell Douglas MD-10 aircraft.

Operating room and classroom

The hospital is a state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with an operating room, classroom and pre- and post-operative room.

The five-year agreement between Honeywell, TP Aerospace and Orbis will provide significant cost savings on aircraft maintenance and downtime, the companies said. As part of the license agreement, Honeywell and TP Aerospace will provide repair, overhaul and maintenance of Honeywell’s wheels and brakes on the McDonnell Douglas MD-10 aircraft.

“We are truly grateful to Honeywell and TP Aerospace for their support,” said Bruce Johnson, director, Aircraft Operations and Maintenance, Orbis International. “The wheels and brakes represent a significant amount of our overall aircraft maintenance cost. It is also extremely vital that our aircraft remains in an operationally ready condition so that we can fly at a moment’s notice. Additionally, Honeywell is the sole source supplier for wheels and brake material for this aircraft type, so we are thankful that they have been willing to support us.”

‘Considerable savings’

“Our agreement in partnership with TP Aerospace will provide significant cost savings to Orbis,” said Ryan Lees, president, Commercial Aerospace, EMEAI, Honeywell Aerospace. “One of the biggest challenges that nonprofit organizations face is getting adequate funding support to maximise their charitable outreach. The considerable savings in their wheels and brakes maintenance cost can now be invested by Orbis in their fight against avoidable blindness.”

“We have been working with Orbis International since 2017, and we continue to admire the work they do,” said Thomas Ibsoe, president and co-founder, TP Aerospace. “Joining forces with Honeywell for this cause is a natural extension of the existing close collaboration between TP Aerospace and Honeywell, and we are confident it is the right match for providing the Flying Eye Hospital with the support and operational reliability that will allow them to be ready for takeoff at any time.”
