Sustainability is at the forefront of discussions at Paris Air Show this year and Ryan Lees, President, EMEAI Aftermarket, Honeywell, is positive about the progress being made.

Speaking to FINN, he said, “The industry is really coming together – you’ve got aircraft manufacturers, systems manufacturers, airlines, business operators, governments, investors, everybody shares a common goal to really drive a more sustainable aviation future and we’re really seeing that come together at shows like Paris.”

Sustainable future

The company has made several developments in its sustainability efforts, recently announcing a partnership with Emirates where it flew a Boeing 777 powered 100% by sustainable aviation fuel.

It has also launched its new high efficiency mode for the Boeing 737 APU at Paris Airshow, “It offers 1-2% fuel savings, which equates to 22 metric tons of CO2 saved per year through that new improvement, and that is something that can be done virtually on wing for most of the existing 737s,” Lees explained.

He also outlined Honeywell’s work in the electric power market through the development of eVTOL, and Lees expects to see tremendous emissions savings through the electrification of aircraft.

Exciting technology

One technology Lees is also excited about is the new Anthem integrated flight deck, which is currently in the certification process. “We just flew a retrofitted PC12 100% equipped with this new cockpit. Its all touch displays, very intuitive, connected all the time and really gives the pilot control of the airplane from anywhere in the world meaning they can plan a flight route from a hotel room and load it into the plane. It’s really new technology that is coming soon.”
