Dubai has said it wants to become the smartest city in the world, including being one of the first to deploy flying driverless taxis. Some have questioned how much is hype over reality. However, a video was released recently which shows test flight trials of the autonomous taxis.

The trials of the Ehang 184 autonomous aerial vehicle have been taking place at the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) test site. The video was uploaded with the caption: “Test flights have been carried out especially at deserts and coastal environments for a number of adaptive aviation flight test subjects.”

In February, the head of Dubai’s Roads and Transportation Agency claimed a drone that can carry people would begin “regular operations” in Dubai from July. He made the announcement at the World Government Summit.

He said the vehicle would be able to carry one passenger weighing up to 100kg (220lbs). The passenger selects a destination on a touch screen but there are no other controls inside the craft.
