Uber has teamed up with NASA to develop software to manage the routes of its Uber Elevate flying taxis.

The announcement was made at the Web Summit tech conference in Lisbon.

Reuters reports: “Uber said it is the first formal services contract by the U.S. National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) covering low-altitude airspace rather than outer space. NASA has used such contract to develop rockets since the late 1950s.”

Uber says it plans to begin testing four-seater flying taxi services across Los Angeles in 2020, its second test market after Dallas/Fort Worth.
