Christian Belleux, Aviation Product Line Director, Orolia, tells FINN about an aviation safety world-first.

Orolia specialises in positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) solutions to improve the reliability, performance and safety of critical, remote or high-risk operations. It has locations in more than 100 countries.

The company recently launched what it claims is a world-first in aviation safety technology – the Kannad Ultima-S Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) for commercial aircraft.

Help is on the way

The Kannad Ultima-S is designed to be installed in the cabin of commercial aircraft or in its life raft. As well as helping aircraft be located faster, Orolia says this is the first ELT capable of notifying the crew about the launch of a search-and-rescue operation via the Galileo Return Link Service (RLS).

Christian Belleux, Aviation Product Line Director, Orolia, told FINN: “This new feature will help people in distress [so they know when they] launch a distress message, they have been heard and someone is coming to help.”
