When aerospace manufacturers send expensive spares and replacements, neither they nor their customers can afford for that equipment to be stolen or tampered with. We talked to FedEx’s J. Marshall Veitenheimer about a nifty device that prevents this.

SenseAware is a tracking device for cargo shipments. It provides real-time location information and also has a suite of sensors including pressure, light, temperature, humidity and vibration.

The device can send alerts if a package has been tampered with – for example, by sensing that it has been exposed to light (showing that the package has been opened without authorisation). Geo-fencing highlights when package has deviated from its pre-defined route and schedule.
