And we’re off… Farnborough Airshow has officially started with the opening ceremony getting underway at 10am this morning.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson opened proceedings by highlighting the pace of change in the aerospace industry.

“It was only 85 years ago that my grandfather was flying Wellington bombers with equipment so primitive that you really have to marvel at the bravery of the men and women who were involved in that war.”

He added: “If you think that we’ve gone from a laundry basket to a Typhoon in a century, then I just want you to imagine what the next 20 years or 50 years will bring.”

There is a packed day of events and aircraft displays planned, including the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350-900 in the air and airline leaders gathering to discuss the future of the industry.

Stay tuned for all the news and industry announcements throughout the day.
