The NHS has created a drive-through COVID-19 testing facility on the hardstanding area adjacent to Hall 5 at Farnborough International.

The facility has already tested more than 100 people since it was opened on May 1. The testing centre is being run on an invitation-only basis and will be open from 09.00 until 18.00, seven days a week. It will be staffed by six nurses; a member of NHS administrative staff, and a project manager.

The facility comprises three bays in the Hall 5 car park, carrying out approximately 18 tests per hour. Those coming for COVID-19 testing will access Hall 5 via a designated route from Gate F and a swab will be taken while they remain in their vehicle.

Testing facility expected to be in place for three months

The facility is expected to be in use for three months and is completely isolated from Show Centre for the duration of its use as a medical facility.

CEO of Farnborough International Gareth Rogers said: “There could not be a better use of Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre than assisting our National Health Service during this time of extraordinary challenge.”

“While we hope social distancing means demand for testing will be limited, it is a privilege to be working alongside the NHS in hosting this facility. Our thoughts are with those affected by Covid-19, their loved ones, and we are, of course, full of admiration for the amazing healthcare staff working on the front line of this pandemic.”
