Thales recently introduced Flight X, a new concept in connected avionics.

The technology is designed to reduce pilot workload so that they can focus on their mission objective.

Guillaume Lapeyronnie told FINN that FlytX is “a real gamechanger”. He noted that it is extremely compact, with everything integrated inside the display to save weight, size and the footprint in the helicopter.

The system has also been designed to be as intuitive and user-friendly as possible – as simple to use as a tablet, Lapeyronnie said.

Further, FlytX has been designed with openness in mind so that manufacturers can adapt the solution to their own cockpit concepts.

“It’s also about the connected avionics,” Lapeyronnie commented.

The FlytX solution has been developed to be integrated with all other aircraft systems for real-time data.

Airbus Helicopters and the French defence procurement agency (DGA) recently selected the FlytX avionics suite for their future H160M Joint Light Helicopter. Airbus Helicopters and Thales are also pursuing studies to potentially integrate FlytX on the future Tiger Mk3.
